On October 19 and 26 of 2017, Outagamie County will have its fourth annual meat processing contest. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in making and packaging brats. All 4-H youth (no Cloverbuds) and FFA youth are eligible to participate. Youth do not need to have any prior experience with livestock. This will count as an educational event for youth participating in the 4-H livestock project area.
October 19, participants will learn about spices, different meat blends and texture. Everyone will be able to pick a flavor and mix for their own brats. The following meeting, October 26, participants will mix and stuff their brats, cook and sample brats.
Meetings will be held at The Meat Block located at N1739 Lily of the Valley Dr in Greenville. Youth can register by sending in the registration form found below or filling out the online form. The fee is $30 and is due on October 1, 2017. Each participant will take home around 3-4 pounds of brats upon completing the workshop. More information will follow as the contest gets closer.
This is a great opportunity to learn how processed meat products are made and packaged. If you have any further questions, please contact Zen Miller at the extension office.
