February Agriculture — UW-Extension is providing a large selection of meetings in February to fit most farmers’ interests. The Pork Expo in Wisconsin Dells is available to swine producers who are interested in being re-certified on Pork Quality Assurance or Transport Quality Assurance. Other swine topics on health and quality will be provided as well. Closer to home, area farmers with large animal feeding units will be able to learn the latest information on feed leachate control, manure irrigation, and neighbor relations at the 2016 CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) Meeting Update, held at the Tundra Lodge Conference Center in Green Bay. This meeting is to help those CAFO-sized farms and those who may be CAFO-sized soon to know concerns and research that fits their operations. Those dairy producers or heifer raisers who want to know more about Raising Quality Heifers will learn about Genomics, heifer feed costs, Veterinary Feed Directive, and managing heifers at the Raising Quality Heifers meeting on Tuesday, February 16 at Liberty Hall in Kimberly. Finally farmers who feed cattle will be able to tour a new 400 head cattle feeding facility and then learn about the veterinary feed directive, yardage cost and feeding trial research and get a market update at the Cattle Feeders Clinic on February 23, hosted by Wagonsen Farms and presented at the Deer Creek Town Hall. For more information and to register for the meeting of your choice, please call Zen Miller at the UW-Extension Office, 920 832 5124.
