The 2013 Outagamie County Fair will be held from July 23 to July 28, 2013.

Entry day will be Wednesday, July 24 from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Please be sure to pass this information along to ALL families and members.
ADVANCE JUNIOR FAIR SEASON PASSES |
Advance Junior Fair Season passes are available for $4 to junior exhibitors (ages 13-18) and $10 for 4-H Leaders. Passes (includes parking) may be ordered through your main leader (check club deadline) or purchased at the UW-Extension Office after June 24 through Friday, July 19. NO junior fair season passes will be available during the fair. Grandstand entertainment requires a separate ticket. Admission will be charged: Wednesday – 4:00 p.m. – Close; Thursday-Sunday – 9:00 a.m. – Close
COUNTY FAIR ACTION CENTER – When: Friday, July 26, Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, 1:00–5:00 p.m. Goals: 1) To showcase the performance activities of 4‑H youth to entertain and energize the 4-H County Fair exhibits. 2) To provide opportunities to promote 4-H projects and activities to the public. 3) To broaden the opportunities for 4-H youth to engage in public speaking and performance skills. Any leaders that want to help organize, please contact the Extension Office at 832-5122. Needed: 4-H clubs to perform music and drama presentations, demonstrations, promotion ideas for 4‑H projects and activities or 4-H members willing to show a 4-H project with fairgoers.
COUNTY FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – If 4-H’ers are going to have a fair where they can exhibit their projects, volunteers of all ages (adults, youth leaders, parents) are needed to help with writing educational comments, placing ribbons, and setting up displays. Help is needed during county fair on Wednesday & Thursday. If you can help even for a couple of hours, please indicate your preference on the reply form at the end of the newsletter and return by June 28.

4-H DAIRY BAR – The 4-H Club Dairy Bar sign up starts Monday, June 3. After June 7 we will have the shifts that need volunteers to help listed on the website at www.co.outagamie.wi.us/uwex. If you can help, please contact Vicki at 832-5123 after June 7.
2013 FAIR PROMOTION – A display using any medium promoting 4-H at the fair can be done in your own community. Lawn or window displays can be included. A fact sheet was in the April main leader’s packet. Cash awards will be given.
ALFALFA QUALITY CONTEST FOR YOUTH – There will be an alfalfa quality contest for youth at the fair on Wednesday, July 24, from 1:00 -5:00 p.m. in the Dairy Arena. The Outagamie County Forage Council is sponsoring this activity for youth ages 9‑19. There will be two divisions – juniors 9-13 years old and seniors 14‑19 years old. The contest will include 3 parts: 1) a written test, 2) a visual grading on an alfalfa bale and 3) laboratory analysis of the alfalfa. Entrants will submit one small square bale or slice of large bale of approximately 40 lbs for visual grading and forage analysis. One entry per person. Savings bonds ($100, $75 & $50) will be awarded to the top 3 in each division. Every participant will get a $5 coupon to be used at the 4-H Dairy Bar.
OUTAGAMIE ROBOTICS RALLY – Outagamie County 4-H Robotics Committee will be hosting a Robotics Challenge at the Outagamie County Fair, Friday July 26th from 1-4 PM. We are looking for team of youth grades 5-12 to compete in an introductory robotics competition. The Outagamie County 4-H Robotics Challenge 2013 packets includes team registration and preparation materials and are available on our website http://fyi.uwex.edu/outagamie4h/ under the STEM tab. Registration fee is $5 per participant, which includes a day and parking pass (Friday) to the Outagamie County Fair on Friday, and awards. Each team must include one adult. All teams are responsible for providing their own equipment; however equipment is available for check out from the Outagamie County Extension office. Each team will be judged on the merit of their robots performance, as well as the team interview. Prizes will be given to the top 3 teams. Space is limited to 6 teams, so please register early. Registration deadline is July 10, 2013. Confirmation letters and passes will be mailed to each registered participant. Please consider participating in this unique and fun experience. If you know of others who might be interested please pass along. We hope this will become an annual event to provide an engaging hands-on STEM experience for all youth!
AG OLYMPICS – The annual Ag Olympics will be Sunday, July 28, 11:00 a.m. Watch for signs in the Livestock Expo. It’s a fun contest, with teams consisting of 5 members (must include 1 adult and one child under age 8). Teams can be from a club or project area.
COUNTY FAIR BUILDING ATTENDANTS – Youth 16 years and older or adults are needed to be employed by the County Fair Association to be building attendants in the open class and junior exhibit buildings during fair. Attendants answer questions on the 4-H exhibits and ask visitors not to touch the exhibits. Please contact Vicki at 832-5123 if interested.
PENNY WAR AT THE FAIR – Start saving your pennies now. We will be having a PENNY WAR between the 4-H clubs at the fair again. Each club will receive their own jug, which will display their club name on it.
Rules Include:
- Pennies count as face value (positive)
- Currency (such as 1’s, 5’s, 10’s etc.) also counts as face value in pennies (positive) (example: one dollar = 100 pennies).
- Any silver coins will be counted toward a negative value (example: a quarter will subtract 25 pennies).
The money collected will be donated to the Outagamie County 4‑H Endowment Fund.
STATE FAIR ACTIVITY STATIONS & DEMONSTRATIONS – Youth ages 12-18 are needed to assist state fairgoers with activity stations and give demonstrations. Applications are available from Joan at 832‑5122 and due May 24.
HOME ECONOMICS, CULTURAL ARTS, MECHANICAL SCIENCES EXHIBITS –
Needed – an adult to transport state fair exhibits to and from State Fair Park on July 30 and August 12. Contact Joan at 832-5122 if interested. We must have volunteers to do this or Outagamie County will not be able to exhibit their projects at state fair. Volunteer will be reimbursed a gas card for your time and fuel.
6th ANNUAL BAKE OFF – Saturday, July 27, 2:00 p.m. 4-H Action Center, Fairgrounds, Seymour
Guidelines:
- Team of one adult and one youth (under 18)
- Recipe must include three dairy products. Bring two copies of recipe and highlight dairy products.
- Bring all ingredients, utensils and appliances (microwaves will be provided).
- All measuring, etc. is to be done in front of judge.
- Display final product (serving for 2-4 people) at 3:00 p.m.
- Entries due July 2 to UW-Extension Office.
- Participants are responsible for fair admission and parking.
Registration is limited. First come first serve basis. Prizes: 1st – $50 2nd – $30 3rd – $20
