Master Gardeners

Master Gardeners Volunteers are trained volunteers who assist staff at the University of Wisconsin-Extension by helping the community understand horticulture and its significance to the environment.   Master Gardener Volunteers are involved in a variety of community activities, including youth and adult education projects.  Outagamie County Master Gardener Association Website

UW-Extension Office at 3365 W. Brewster Street in Appleton

The sale include annuals, perennials, vegetables, flowering shrubs, and herbs. Added to the sale of plants is a Garden Treasures sale – gently used pots, garden equipment, garden art, bird houses, and other items. Also on the agenda each year is a list of experts hosting classes on everything from care of plants to the creation of cement birdbaths cast with leaves.

Community Garden Partnership

A  community garden is a space dedicated to growing food while building community.  The resources of land, water and materials such as mulch, cultural knowledge, and information are share among gardeners.  Community Gardens offer a way for individuals and family to enhand their food security.  Community Garden Partnership Website 

“Growing Your Life” Series – Classes include:  Good Eats/Good Gardens, Food Preservation, Master Gardener Public Education, and Gardening Education.  Course are designed to provide good food prepartion with participant teaching and gardening opportunities.  Collaborations of:   UW Extension Outagamie County, Salvation Army Fox Cities, Goodwill’s Community Garden Partnership, UW Oshkosh School of Nursing, Outagamie County Master Gardeners, Outagamie County Master Food Preservers, Outagamie County Master Composters.  Growing Your Life Class Schedule -  updated 03-12-2013.

Homegrown grolup preparing foodHOMEGROWN Project – The HOMEGROWN project includes knowledge and awareness building around food security, as well as the community building that will sustain positively the changes in how people access and secure good food.  We are using well recognized strategies for this by encouraging the development of human capital (social bonding) all the while combining the bricks and mortar component by building gardens and growing food.  We hope to further strengthen this by providing education for development of cottage industries related to food – posted December 2011.   Community Garden’s HOMEGROWN Project .
